Nutrition Australia and Melbourne University Unite to Help Improve Student Nutrition with Pick My Project!

Research shows that cost of living pressures are increasing rates of food insecurity among university students.

Nutrition Australia Vic Division, in partnership with the Fair Food Challenge and the University of Melbourne International Student Group, has been shortlisted in the Victorian Government’s “Pick My Project” grant initiative for ‘SNAP’, the Student Nutrition Access Program.

This project builds on the good work already happening in the University of Melbourne and aims to increase students’ access to healthy, culturally appropriate and affordable food.  It also offers opportunities for students to gain skills in a community kitchen, plus learn about food budgeting and preparation through market tours and workshops.

It will also include:

• A community kitchen skills building program
• Fruit and veg box vouchers
• Culturally diverse culinary tours and a meal training so fresh and healthy meals can be prepared for students in need

The project requires public voting to be successful, so we invite any readers in the local zone to vote for this great project.  Eligible voters must reside within 5kms of the project location (Carlton, Melbourne) and voting closes on September 17th.  Where applicable, please ask any colleagues, family and friends in the local zone to vote so we can assist university students to access healthy, culturally appropriate and sustainable food.
