National Nutrition Week Breakfast - Hosted by NSW Division

Always Trying For Five - Starting with Breakfast at NSW Government House

The President and Secretary of our National Board attended a breakfast hosted by NSW Division of Nutrition Australia held at NSW Parliament House as part of National Nutrition Week. The event was such a success that people had to be turned away as the venue was at capacity and tickets still being requested the day before which was fantastic to see! The varied health issues we have in Australia which relate to poor diet are something we are passionate about improving.

The event was hosted by Mr Mark Coure MP, Member for Oatley and Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure and attended by several MPs including the Hon Brad Hazzard MP, Minister for Health and Minister for Medical Research who also gave an address.

Prof Garry Eggar spoke about some simple principles and how we have plenty of product locally in Australia for there to be no excuse for poor diet. He spoke about eating mainly plant foods and lots of water – simple things really!

We also heard from Dr Joanna McMillan on many issues around diet and healthy eating and that it does really come down to making it simple so that we can all easily incorporate a healthy diet in our everyday lives. Forget the fads around Kale and Acai berries, there is plenty of nourishment in all the local produce available to us on a regular basis in this lucky country of ours.

National Board attendees were very impressed by the commitment and effort displayed by the Chair of NSW Division, Barbara Ward, and her team in the NSW Division. The atmosphere was fun and uplifting and we sincerely hope that following educational events in this special week for Nutrition Australia, more people are conscious about eating at least 5 serves of vegetables a day!
