Nutrition Australia Queensland Childcare Advisory Service

Welcome to Nutrition Australia Queensland’s ChildCare Advisory Service. We are a key advisory body to directors, childcare teachers, parents, children and the food industry. The Childcare Advisory Service is targeted at people associated with childcare centres, family day care schemes, kindergartens, preschools, child health centres, play groups and early life services.

The ChildCare Advisory Service was introduced in 1994 and provides accurate and up to date early life nutrition information. It can help ensure your facility can meet and exceed the food and nutrition related principles of the QIAS and FDCQA Qualify Practices Guides. Currently around 50% of Long Day Care Centres and Family Day Care Facilities are members of our service.

Nutrition and Food Handling Course and Food Safety Audits:
A two hour workshop designed to assist Long Day Care Centres meet the QIAS requirements in Principles 6.1 and 6.2 and Family Day Care Providers to meet the FDCQA requirements outlined in Principle 4.2.

Menu Assessments
A comprehensive report that helps ensure accreditation guidelines are being met in terms of food and nutrition. Menu assessments are based on recommendations outlined by the National Childcare Accreditation Council, specifically principle 6.1 of the QIAS Quality Practices Guide and also incorporate nutritional requirements based on the National Health and Medical Research Councils Recommended Dietary Intakes (RDI’s) and the Australian Dietary Guidelines for Children and Adolescents.

Staff and/or Parent Talks and Workshops
We can provide practical and interesting staff development workshops and/or parent information nights tailored to your facilities requirements on any nutrition topic of interest or concern for your facility.

Nutrition Australia Resources
Nutrition Australia publishes a range of resources tailored to the needs of ChildCare professionals, parents and carers. Our options include books, booklets, nutrition kits, posters, leaflets, stickers and magnets. Our publications order form provides detailed information.
