‘Nutritiously Delicious’– truly manna from heaven!
Nutrition Australia NSW Division and Manna House, an outreach program of Figtree Anglican Church which feeds the disadvantaged and hungry in our community, are partnering together to conduct a FREE nutrition workshop.
Research has revealed that those who are from a low-socioeconomic background within communities worldwide are generally at a greater risk of being overweight and suffering from obesity. In turn, being overweight or obese can lead to an increased risk of suffering from diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular and cancer.
Hayley Macfarlane, Project Officer at Nutrition Australia NSW explained; ‘The workshop will be run over 4 weeks for clients of Manna House, with the aim to increase the Manna House client’s knowledge of nutrition and exercise and to enhance their cooking skills. The flow-on effect in taking on the information and changing eating habits is a natural improvement in overall health and well-being.’
The 4 week program called ‘Nutritiously Delicious’ will run over 4 consecutive Fridays, starting 30 April, at Figtree Anglican Church. The hands-on workshop will be run by experienced staff from Nutrition Australia, assisted by volunteers from Figtree Anglican. The clients will not only learn how to prepare simple healthy lunches, but each week, will also enjoy eating the labour of their hands! An added bonus is that at the end of the four weeks, each person will be provided a booklet of all the recipes used during the workshop.
Julie-Anne Jones, coordinator of Manna House said, ‘This partnership between Nutrition Australia NSW and Figtree Anglican Church is another way that the two organizations can effectively contribute in a positive way to the local community. The FREE workshops, address some of the key issues that many of our clients at Manna House face. We are delighted that Nutrition Australia NSW are able to provide simple but effective options to assist our clients in making healthy, life-style improving decisions.’
