Community Programs
Healthy Communities Initiative

Nutrition Australia NSW Division is proud to annouce our partnership with Wollongong Council which involves implementing nutrition workshops as part of the Healthy Communities Initiative. Wollongong Council received funding from the NSW Government over a two year period (between 2011-2013) to provide a series of community-based physical activity and healthy eating programs.
The programs are specifically targetted towards unemployed individuals, older Australians, part time and casual workers.

Illawarra Grandparents Picnic
On 11 March 2011 Nutrition Australia attended the Illawarra Grandparents Picnic at Wollongong Botanic Gardens. As more and more parents return to the workforce, grandparents are increasingly providing greater support for their grandchildren.
This event aimed to inform grandparents from the Illawarra about local services for children, and to provide an opportunity for grandparents and grandchildren to have fun and play games together.
Nutrition Australia NSW Division hosted an interactive stand providing nutrition related fact sheets for both children and grandparents. We also held a competition where grandparents were asked to provide their grandchildren's favourite fruit and vegetable recipe.
A total of two hundred grandparents and children attended the event, making it a most successful evening.
