Kay Holmes, Volunteer, Nutrition Australia ACT Division

Kay is currently studying Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Canberra, and has volunteered for Nutrition Australia ACT Division since she was an undergraduate student. Kay is involved in a wide range of activities, including seminars, food stands and writing content for the ACT Division newsletter.

What inspired you to get involved?

I was a nutrition student and wanted to gain some work experience, so Nutrition Australia was the perfect place to start.

What did you get up to?

I help write the division members’ newsletter and assist with general admin for Nutrition Australia projects. I have also helped with seminars and food stands to promote healthy eating in mothers’ groups, at Floriade 2012, and Canberra Institute of Technology.

What do you enjoy most?

I enjoy helping out in any way I can with the projects and I also really enjoy getting involved with the talks and cooking demonstrations.

What would you say to someone considering volunteering with Nutrition Australia?

Go for it. The staff at Nutrition Australia ACT Division are a lovely group of people to work with and they are very understanding and flexible. You have the opportunity to get involved in the projects they are working on, giving you a real sense of what public health nutritionists and dietitians do for the community.
