Healthy Lunchbox Week

Nutrition Australia launches Healthy Lunchbox Week!

Nutrition Australia is easing the stress of school lunches with the launch of Healthy Lunchbox Week! This year our major supporter is the Grains & Legumes Nutrition Council (GLNC) and together we are encouraging parents to bring back the sandwich.

With the ‘back-to-school’ chaos looming, busy parents are back to packing lunchboxes again. Coming up with new ideas (that the children will eat!) can be challenging. Healthy Lunchbox Week supports and inspires parents across Australia to create stress-free healthy lunchboxes. In our inaugural year we are celebrating with a free webinar delivered by our friends at GLNC.

Our kids eat a third of their daily intake at school, so it’s important we make it count. We have three golden rules which make it as easy as 1-2-3! and they are:

  1. Make it healthy
  2. Keep it convenient, and
  3. Make it enjoyable

In celebration of the launch of Healthy Lunchbox Week, we are excited to offer a free webinar delivered by the Grains and Legumes Nutrition Council. Designed for busy parents, this 20 minute webinar will inspire parents to maximise nutrition and keep lunchbox stress to a minimum.

Grains & Legumes Nutrition Council

GLNC is a not-for-profit, recognised health promotion charity and the independent authority on the nutrition and health benefits of grains and legumes.

GLNC’s mission is to promote grains and legumes nutrition as part of a balanced diet through evidence-based information, cultivating good public health.

GLNC provides a platform for organisations from across the grains and legumes value chain that have a pre-competitive interest in promoting the health and nutrition benefits of grains, grain-based foods and legumes. You can learn more about them here.

They have a great campaign called “Bring back the Sandwich”. Children between 3 and 8 years should eat 30-40g per day of whole grains and this guideline is met with just 2 slices of whole grain bread! Register here for the free webinar during our “Healthy Lunchbox Week” where you can learn more!

Throughout January, join Smash on their 5 minute lunchbox journey where they will show you how you can ‘Switch Up’ your lunchbox and pack a variety of meal types all in their new Bento Switch Up!

Check out the below videos for more lunchbox inspo!

  • Smash show you how easy it is to 'Switch Up' your lunch box and confidently pack wet foods with no worries of leakage. View it here
  • Smash 'Switch Up' your lunchbox combo with this awesome wrap. View it here

Smash recommends a good quality  insulated “cooler bag” and a couple of freeze/ ice products are used when packing lunches through summer months or everyday in hotter climates. All Smash Insulated products feature Blue IQ Antibacterial Lining that helps protect against harmful bacteria.

88% agree that keeping the inside of their lunch bag clean and free from odours mould and residue is a major concern.

61% had experienced problems with either odoursmould, mildew in their insulated lunch bag.

It’s important to remember that a drink bottle is an essential part of packed lunch and a key pressure point for mum is making sure their kids are drinking enough water. We know that a key issue is that many kids will only drink cold or chilled water and in hot temperature it doesn’t take long for water to become hot and unappealing. Smash have also just released a new Drink bottle called the Smash Chiller that boasts no condensation, is leak proof and keeps your drinks 2.5 times colder than a regular drink bottle.
