Flavour of the Month
Hamburgers (Serves 4)
Ingredients
- 200g lean minced steak
- 1 tablespoon wheat bran
- ½ cup chopped onion
- 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
- 1 small egg (50g), whisked
- 2 teaspoons canola oil
- 4 hamburger buns (preferably wholemeal or multigrain)
- 8 beetroot slices
- 8 tomato slices
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- freshly ground black pepper (optional).
Method
- Combine the mince, bran, onion, parsley and egg. Mix well.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty.
- Heat the oil in a large pan and cook the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side.
- Drain on paper towel or butcher’s paper to absorb excess fat.
- Slice the buns in half and toast the cut sides.
- Place a hamburger, slices of beetroot, tomato and some shredded lettuce on one half of bun, add a little ground pepper (optional), top with other half of bun –
- and enjoy!
