Flavour of the Month

Hamburgers (Serves 4)

Ingredients

  • 200g lean minced steak
  • 1 tablespoon wheat bran
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • 1 small egg (50g), whisked
  • 2 teaspoons canola oil
  • 4 hamburger buns (preferably wholemeal or multigrain)
  • 8 beetroot slices
  • 8 tomato slices
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • freshly ground black pepper (optional).

Method

  1. Combine the mince, bran, onion, parsley and egg. Mix well.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty.
  3. Heat the oil in a large pan and cook the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side.
  4. Drain on paper towel or butcher’s paper to absorb excess fat.
  5. Slice the buns in half and toast the cut sides.
  6. Place a hamburger, slices of beetroot, tomato and some shredded lettuce on one half of bun, add a little ground pepper (optional), top with other half of bun –
  7. and enjoy!
