Nutrition in Schools Advisory Service
Products Suitable for Children and
Adolescents
These products are ideal for children and adolescents, so
they are suitable for sale in the school tuckshop. The following list of
products have been assessed by Nutrition Australia dietitians according to
Nutrition Australia's Food Selection Guidelines for Children and
Adolescents. As the Australian Nutrition Foundation, Nutrition
Australia first developed the concept of Food Selection Guidelines for school
tuckshops in 1989. Since then these food based guidelines have provided a useful mechanism to
identify products that are suitable for children and adolescents, which are lower in fat, sugar, and sodium, and are
higher in calcium.
