New! Lets Get Fruity

Queensland

Developed in Queensland for the school community that supports a Health Promoting Schools philosophy, the Nutrition in Schools Advisory Service (NISAS) aims to provide up-to-date nutrition information for tuckshops / canteens, teachers, students and parents, in an effort to keep the school community abreast of the latest nutrition information and to help promote good nutrition within the whole school community.

Nutrition Australia has a range of resources available to you as part of the Nutrition in Schools Advisory Service, including:

Victoria

Healthy Eating Schools Program

Did you know that Australian primary and secondary schools can still apply for the Healthy School Communities Initiative $1500 grant to promote healthy eating? Schools which did not apply in 2005 are still eligible to apply in 2006.

The Nutrition Australia Victorian Division is taking expressions of interest for 30 to 40 primary schools located near Melbourne and Geelong to be involved in their Healthy Eating Schools Program for 2006 which will begin in Term 3. Schools utilise the $1500 grant to fund their involvement in this nutrition program, and therefore they must still be eligible to apply for this grant.

Nutrition Australia has a long history working with schools with the Nutrition Australia Victorian Division now operating the Go for your life Healthy Canteens Advisory Service. In 2005, the Nutrition Australia Victorian Division worked with 80 primary schools involved in their Healthy Eating Schools program. This program offers schools a planned nutrition program providing resources and advice based on the Health Promoting Schools framework which focuses three key areas:

  • children and teachers
  • school environment and food service, and
  • family and community.

The Healthy Eating Schools Program focuses mainly on assisting schools to develop a school nutrition Action Plan, and provides them with resources, professional development, advice and information to help them achieve their healthy eating initiatives.

Nutrition Australia welcomes the opportunity to lend our expertise to work with schools on any food and nutrition initiatives.  Click on the link below to download a flyer describing the program in more detail.
