NATIONAL NUTRITION WEEK 11TH October 1999
Food Variety and Physical Activity
Health professionals recommend food variety and physical activity for a
healthy body in the 21st Century. If the thought of physical activity
scares you, don’t worry. You don’t have to be an Olympian or professional
athlete to add exercise into your life.
Australia’s Peak Nutrition Body, the Australian Nutrition Foundation
(ANF)
has some answers.
The ANF suggests at least thirty different foods each day, including herbs
and spices and even tea, as well as at least thirty minutes of physical activity
a day. Enjoy walking the dog, playing ball with the kids in the park, even
simple household tasks such as vacuuming, gardening or hanging out the washing.
This can easily add up to thirty minutes of physical activity a day .
This is the main message in the Australian Nutrition Foundation’s new book:
Eating, Activity, Sport and You. The importance of food variety and
activity will be highlighted throughout National Nutrition Week, starting on
Monday October 11th to October.
The Australian Nutrition Foundation together with Dr Louise Burke athlete,
writer and dietitian at the Australian Institute of Sport have developed a
simple and easy to follow book – Eating, Activity, Sport and You.
Dr Burke strongly believes in the necessity of food variety and physical
variety. Quote from Dr Louise Burke: "At the Australian Institute of Sport
we are working with elite athletes where a variety of food is important to
provide the different nutrients for good health as well as for peak performance.
However you don’t have to be an Olympic champion to benefit from regular ,
daily exercise and nutritious food to achieve your personal peak
performance"
Chairperson of The Australian Nutrition Foundation, Professor Mark Wahlqvist
believes Eating, Activity, Sport and You will encourage Australians to
lead a healthy lifestyle. Quote, "The ANF encourages all Australians to
enjoy good health and by simply choosing a variety of different foods everyday
and keeping active. This book makes it easy to put everything into practice
"
You can get your free copy of the the ANF book "Eating, Activity, Sport
and You" as well as a free bookmark at your local Amcal pharmacy during
Nutrition Week. The booklet is then available at $5.00 a copy from the ANF
Division in your State.
