What you eat has a big impact on your health. According to
the Australian Nutrition Foundation, research has shown that consuming a variety
of foods every day, based on the Healthy Eating Pyramid, offers the best
protection against many lifestyle diseases such as cancer, and heart disease.
Foods, in particular, fruit and vegetables, contain a number
of naturally occurring substances known as phytochemicals. Phytochemicals are
thought to interfere with the process that causes cancer. Antioxidants, found
mainly in plant food, behave like phytochemicals and protect the body's cells
against damage that may lead to cancer and heart disease. These are just two
examples of how what we eat, affects our health.
To address this and other topical nutrition issues, the
Australian Nutrition Foundation (ANF) is holding a seminar with Australia's
leading health authorities, including, Professor Mark Wahlqvist, Sanitarium
dietitian, Sue Radd, and Australia's well known nutritionist, Rosemary Stanton,
consultant to Tip Top, on Monday 22nd November 1999, in Darwin. The
seminar will be held in the business building lecture theatre at the Northern
Territory University.
This seminar will provide you with a rare opportunity to hear
Australia's most respected health authorities discuss antioxidants and
phytoestrogens. These plant substances found in soy products and linseeds are
thought to assist with relieving menopausal symptoms. The importance of food
variety in its role in the prevention of lifestyle diseases will also be
discussed as will practical tips on how to include foods that have health giving
properties. If you would like to attend the seminar entrance is $10 or free for
ANF members.
Bookings are essential on 1800 673 392.
