sensitive to the dangers facing the dolphin.
The symbol guarantees that Greenseas products:
- Do not come from the Eastern Tropical Pacific area
where dolphin school with tuna.
- The tuna has not been caught by drift or gill net
methods.
Greenseas tuna is caught in either Australian waters or in
the Western Pacific area where dolphin do not school with tuna.
Greenseas is committed to working towards a clean industry with 'dolphin safe'
factories worldwide.
HJ Heinz Company Policy
The HJ Heinz Company has a global policy with regards all
Seafood products produced by the company under such brands as StarKist,
Greenseas and Petit Navire.
Heinz is committed to protecting dolphins, and we are
proud to share with you our worldwide policy to save dolphin lives, which was
first announced in April 1990.
This policy states that:
- Heinz will not purchase any tuna caught in association
with dolphins.
- Heinz continues its practice of refusing to purchase
tuna caught with gill or drift nets, which are known to be dangerous to many
forms of marine life. Heinz condemns the use of these indiscriminate fishing
methods that trap dolphins, whales, and other marine life along with the
intended catch of fish.
StarKist was the first major American tuna canning company
to make this commitment to the public. We remain committed to this policy and
require certification that all tuna we purchase is dolphin-safe. Our
dolphin-safe policy is reflected on packs with a special "Dolphin
Safe" logo.
