Nola Caffin
Nola Caffin has been Chair of the Queensland Division of
Nutrition Australia and a member of the National Council since 1994.
Nola has a BSc from Sydney University and a MSc from UNSW.
She was a lecturer in the Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Science at
Curtin University for many years. In 1991 Nola moved to the University of
Queensland where she lectures in food science, nutrition and food safety and
regulation within the School of Land and Food Sciences.
She is academic advisor for the Bachelor of Applied Science
(Food Science and Nutrition) a three year course which she helped to develop.
Current research projects include the measurement of
flavonoids in foods (currently tea and honey), quality of Australian tea,
rheological and functional properties of honey, implications of food policy and
regulatory changes. She has a special interest in health claims and prepared two
ANF submissions to ANZFA on the review of Clause A1(19) of the Food Standards
Code relating to health and medical claims.
Nola is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Food Science
and Technology and Chair of the Accreditation and Professional Development
Committee of AIFST. This committee has been proactive in a range of activities
relating to education and training for the food science and technology
profession including the accreditation of new courses and the development of
standards for the curriculum and delivery of these courses.
Nola’s range of experience in food and nutrition has
provided her with a broad perspective to issues that encompass nutrition and the
food industry. |
